How to find locum slots in KL and Selangor
Locum work in Klang Valley lives in Telegram and WhatsApp groups. Here's how that market actually works, why good slots vanish, and how to stop losing them to whoever refreshed first.
If you want locum work in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor, the honest answer today is: get into the groups. Locum in the Klang Valley runs on Telegram and WhatsApp, and that's where clinics post first, second and usually last.
We spent two days reading one of them properly — ~150 real locum posts from a Selangor/KL Telegram group, 26–27 June 2026 — to understand what actually happens in there. Here's what we learned, including the parts nobody says out loud.
How the market actually works
A clinic types a shift into a group of a few hundred doctors. Everyone sees it at once. Whoever replies first usually gets it. That's the entire mechanism — and it means the slot doesn't go to the best-suited doctor, or the nearest, or the one who'd do it every week. It goes to whoever happened to be holding their phone.
Which is why good slots are gone in minutes, and why the same clinic keeps re-posting the same shift when the fast replier turns out not to be available after all.
What that costs you
- You can't search it. Want Thursday, in Puchong, RM45+? You scroll and hope. Nothing is filterable, because nothing is a field.
- You can't compare. Rates come in seven different shapes, so the fast decision is rarely the informed one.
- You re-read everything. Every post is a paragraph; the answer to "is this for me" is buried in it.
- Being good doesn't help. Nobody can see your experience or that your APC is current. Speed beats fit.
- It's not all locum. The group carries permanent job ads, other professions and vendor spam — noise you filter by eye, every time.
Making the groups work better
- 1Turn on notifications for the groups that actually post your area — and mute the rest, or you'll learn to ignore all of them.
- 2Have your answer ready: name, MMC number, APC year, and the dates you can do. Most lost slots are lost to typing.
- 3Ask the six questions early — rate shape, incentives, load, payment timing, break, cancellation. A clinic that answers fast is one worth working for.
- 4Keep your own list of clinics that pay on time. The group won't remember for you.
- 5Don't chase URGENT. Four in five posts say it.
Or don't race at all
We built LocumMY because the racing is the part that's broken, not the people. Every open slot in Malaysia sits in one feed you can filter — by state, by date, by urgent, by female-preferred. A slot collects every applicant rather than going to the fastest thumb, and the clinic picks from real profiles: your experience, your MMC number, your verification.
You verify once — IC and APC, checked by an admin — and you're trusted at every clinic after that. Your phone number stays private until a clinic confirms you. It's free for doctors and free for clinics. Have a look at what's open, or join as a doctor.
